Methodology & disclosures
What this index is—and what it is not.

Editorial estimates, not certifications
Scores, rankings, cost symbols, access descriptions, and conclusions are good-faith editorial estimates and opinions based on publicly available documentation and reproducible user workflows at the time of review. They are not laboratory tests, regulatory findings, audits, warranties, or certifications. Information may be incomplete or mistaken and may change as products, software, contracts, and policies change.
What the score measures
The index measures data portability, care-team access, production API access and terms, completeness of self-export, freshness, and transparency of user control. It does not score sensor accuracy, clinical validity, reliability, safety, medical benefit, regulatory authorization, privacy or cybersecurity compliance, customer support, device price, or overall product quality.
The 25-point health-platform portability dimension explicitly reviews Apple Health, Google Health / Health Connect, and Samsung Health. A direct, automatic, broad, and timely outbound route earns more credit than an indirect relay, delayed or foreground-only synchronization, import-only connection, or undocumented pathway. Platform availability never substitutes for care-team parity or near-real-time access.
The 10-point freshness dimension measures end-to-end latency rather than the speed of the manufacturer’s native app. It follows a new measurement from the wearable through any required phone sync, cloud processing, health-platform write, API or webhook, and finally to the authorized follower, clinician, or outside application. Full credit requires no intentional holding delay and no manual or foreground refresh. When a manufacturer does not publish a maximum delivery time, the index labels the route as unspecified or sync-dependent rather than assuming that it is instantaneous.
Prices, regions, and private agreements
Published prices are illustrative snapshots from the cited source and may exclude tax, hardware, sensors, insurance, implementation labor, currency differences, regional plans, and negotiated enterprise terms. A dollar-sign symbol summarizes the cost or uncertainty of the cheapest meaningful external-data route. “Private quote” or “$$$” means a price is not publicly available or is negotiated; it is not an estimate of a specific bill.
No medical or professional advice
The site is for general informational and editorial purposes. It does not provide medical, legal, privacy, cybersecurity, investment, purchasing, or procurement advice, and it does not create a physician-patient, attorney-client, consultant, fiduciary, or other professional relationship. Do not use a score as the sole basis for a clinical, safety, purchasing, or business decision.
Independence, affiliations, and trademarks
The Wearable Openness Index is currently independent and receives no manufacturer sponsorship. If a future financial, employment, advisory, affiliate, free-product, investment, or other material relationship could affect how a rating is perceived, it will be disclosed clearly near the relevant content. Product and company names, logos, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Their use identifies the products being discussed and does not imply affiliation, sponsorship, approval, or endorsement.
Corrections and updates
Manufacturers, developers, clinicians, and users are invited to challenge factual claims and scores with links to official documentation or a reproducible workflow. Submissions will be reviewed in good faith, but the project retains editorial judgment over its methodology and conclusions. Scores may be revised without notice when stronger evidence becomes available.
No warranty; verify before relying
The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, or uninterrupted access. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the creator and contributors are not responsible for losses, damages, costs, or decisions arising from use of or reliance on this site. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Verify material information directly with the relevant manufacturer and obtain appropriate professional advice when needed.
