About the founder
Dr. Andrew Zimmerman
A U.S.-board-certified internal medicine physician focused on metabolic health, longevity, and the practical use of wearable data in clinical care.
Why I built WearOpen
Wearables can collect increasingly detailed health information around the clock. But getting that information to a clinician, caregiver, independent app, or your own code can still mean screenshots, manual exports, delayed syncing, or a private commercial integration.
I created WearOpen after encountering that disconnect firsthand. Data that appears live in a wearer's app may reach a physician, caregiver, or outside platform hours later—or not at all.
What the project is trying to change
WearOpen is not a buying guide. It is an advocacy and accountability campaign with a clear goal: push wearable makers to open their platforms. We make barriers visible, score the access companies actually allow, and publish the evidence so patients, clinicians, builders, and the public can demand better. Immediate, complete, user-directed access should be a basic expectation of health technology—not a favor granted through a private deal.
Independence
No manufacturer sponsors or controls WearOpen.
Scores are provisional, evidence-linked, and open to correction. Manufacturers, developers, clinicians, and users are encouraged to challenge any claim with stronger documentation or a reproducible workflow.
